Interlinking heat and smoke detectors that meet regulations and save lives

From multiple occupancy social housing to residential and commercial properties the Arctic Hayes range of SleepSafe heat and smoke detectors offers a wireless interlink capability, allowing the units to communicate with each other and alert building users, homeowners and tenants to danger.

The Sleepsafe range includes the 10 Year Wireless Interlinked Smoke Alarm (SM10L) and the 10 Year Wireless Interlinked Heat Alarm (HT10L), which are ideally suited for a wide range of applications, including landlords, local authority properties, educational institutions and multi-dwelling units like blocks of flats. Thanks to their ease of installation, without the need for extensive wiring, the detectors are also a practical choice for retrofitting in existing buildings or incorporating into new builds.

When one alarm detects a danger all connected alarms sound, ensuring that everyone in the property is alerted, regardless of their location. This feature is particularly advantageous in larger homes, multi-floor buildings, and complexes such as local authorities and blocks of flats, where timely warning can save lives.

“We are encouraging merchants and installers to be aware of the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022 and the need for reliable smoke, heat and CO alarms for those customers working with local authorities and social housing clients,” says Lee Parsons, Chief Executive Officer of Arctic Hayes.

“Since the regulations came into force, public sector landlords must ensure at least one smoke alarm is on each storey of their homes where there is a room used as living accommodation. With their interlinking capability, these detectors can help installers ensure landlords meet the regulations and keep multiple tenants safe.”

The regulations also state that landlords must ensure a carbon monoxide alarm is placed in any room used as living accommodation which contains a fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers). Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms must also be repaired or replaced once landlords have been informed and found that they are faulty.

The Arctic Hayes SleepSafe range can help meet all of these needs by offering faster, more reliable detection of CO, smoke and heat. The SleepSafe Wireless Smoke Alarm (Order code SM10L), for instance, utilises advanced Photo-optical technology, which reacts faster than alarms using ionisation technology, where particles are smouldering giving advanced warning before flames take hold.

Meanwhile, the SleepSafe Wireless Heat Alarm (Order code HT10L) is specifically designed to rapidly detect incremental temperature changes to trigger an alarm between 54°Cto 70°C.

For optimal safety, it is recommended that these heat alarms be installed as part of a comprehensive fire protection system, ensuring all bases are covered in fire detection.

Both Wireless Heat & Smoke Alarms are equipped with a 10-year sealed battery, ensuring long-term protection without the need for regular battery replacements. The SleepSafe range also has carbon monoxide (CO) alarms which can be added to any installation.
